Week 1-3

During Weeks 1–3, participants establish the theoretical and clinical foundations of therapeutic game mastering. Training begins with biopsychosocial analysis of the integrated, flawed, ideal, modeled, and masked aspects of the self, applying these concepts to character creation, case conceptualization, and individualized narrative-based treatment planning. Participants then examine play across the lifespan and apply Narrative Therapy principles through collaborative storytelling and character exploration. The section concludes with a critical evaluation of current TTRPG research and the integration of advanced, evidence-informed techniques designed to strengthen client engagement and support meaningful therapeutic outcomes.

Week 4-6

During week’s 4-6, participants advance from foundational theory into assessment, intervention design, and clinical facilitation. Training addresses accurate, ethical, and legally compliant documentation for TTRPG-informed services alongside comprehensive assessment of clients’ psychological, emotional, and social needs using traditional and game-based methods. Participants critically examine current research, develop culturally responsive and inclusive gaming environments, and strengthen advanced competencies in narrative development, group facilitation, and the adaptation of game mechanics to clinical goals. This section culminates in the creation of individualized TTRPG-based interventions addressing needs such as anxiety reduction, social development, and trauma processing.

Week 7-9

During Weeks 7–9, participants integrate advanced communication, facilitation, and accessibility practices into therapeutic game delivery. Training emphasizes clear, empathetic communication strategies that strengthen engagement, maintain supportive environments, manage group dynamics, and keep play aligned with therapeutic goals. Participants develop proficiency with virtual tabletops, adaptive resources for homebound participants, in-person gaming aids, and theater-of-the-mind techniques. The program concludes with applied practice in selecting and adapting support tools to meet diverse participant needs across individual, virtual, and group-based clinical settings.
